Hoşgeldiniz!

Advanced Turkish is meant to be a culmination or summation of the basic Beginners lessons which taught you the language fundamentals, and the Intermediate lessons in which you learned common sentence structures and increased your vocabulary and knowledge of the culture. The Advanced lessons provide materials with more complex sentence and grammar structures as well as some conversational Turkish demonstrating advanced language skills. Upon completion of the Advanced lessons, you should have a solid foundation in the language allowing you to express yourself in Turkish, both orally and in writing. Your advanced language skills should allow you to express yourself clearly and accurately using complete sentences and being able to narrate or relate stories, experiences or opinions in the major tenses for the past and future. In developing your advanced language skills, concentrate not only on more complex grammatical forms but also on using, but not necessarily at a level or complexity commensurate with your command of your native tongue.

The “Getting Started” section will explain the layout of the units and lessons. I recommend the “Tips for Advanced Turkish” section as it will give you strategies for learning Turkish and optimizing your work with the lessons on this disk.

Your primary goal, at this stage of learning Turkish, should be to express yourself in a variety of situations both formal and informal and to be able to negotiate difficulties. Examples of these types of contexts may be making arrangements to rent an apartment, reporting a problem to a customer service representative or summarizing an assigned reading to your professor. At this stage, you should do a great deal of reading of authentic texts of all types in Turkish and try to expose yourself to various types of media such as films, television and radio programs. Working through these lessons should give you the skills to develop your advanced Turkish language skills.

Kolay gelsin!
